About the Role
Mogul is seeking a systems-minded finance professional who is looking to further their growth as an accounting professional at a company with a portfolio scaling to billions of dollars of assets under management. You'll report directly to our Director of Accounting and Tax. We are growing our portfolio, and growing it fast: past 150+ properties and climbing.
As the Senior Accountant, you will prepare and maintain property accounting, the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, and partnership tax returns, plus special projects.
Location: This role is hybrid, based out of our Washington, DC or New York City office. You must be located within driving distance of one of the two offices, or willing to relocate.
- Property Accounting: Maintain the books for a growing number of single-asset LLCs and reconcile property management statements into the general ledger
- Close: Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and keep improving the close checklist
- Tax & Compliance: Prepare partnership tax returns (Form 1065 and K-1s), supporting workpapers, and the recurring entity compliance filings
- Working knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping is ESSENTIAL. Real estate experience is a MAJOR value-add, and tax preparation experience is a plus. What is non-negotiable is the desire and ability to learn and grow in your role.
What You'll Do
- Report directly to the Director of Accounting and Tax
- Maintain the books for a growing number of single-asset LLCs
- Prepare reconciliations of property management statements into the general ledger
- Prepare fixed asset and depreciation schedules
- Run month-end close, including bank reconciliations, accruals and reversals, and prepaid and deferred amortization
- Document, maintain, and improve the close procedure and close checklist
- Maintain AI-assisted coding rules across banking and ERP platforms to support a rapidly scaling business model
- Prepare Form 1065, K-1s, and related forms
- Prepare supporting M-1 adjustments and tax workpapers
- Prepare recurring compliance forms: 1099s, annual reports, LLC formation filings, and more
- Own the entity compliance process, including new LLC formation requests, tax ID registrations, foreign qualifications, and certificates of good standing, automated in partnership with the development team
Where This Goes
We're building this role as the preparer seat in a preparer / reviewer model that scales with the portfolio. As more of the books, tax, and compliance work gets automated, you'll take on special projects and become the finance resource other departments lean on.
