The Swedish National Heritage Board was awarded the Golden Link for the service Fornsök, which was developed by Mogul. The jury’s reasoning was as follows:
"For creative and innovative work in an active cooperation between several parties that has updated a markedly traditional area in an exciting, open, profitable and well-implemented way."

Fornsök is a map-based service that provides accessibility for all known monuments of antiquity in Sweden for the general public and professional users alike. According to the jury, this offers all the means to contribute greatly to an increased interest in history and monuments of antiquity in Sweden.
Map services – a growing area on the Internet
Map services, or GIS, constitute one of the fastest-growing information interfaces on the Internet. This was previously a rather limited area with expensive solutions, but this is no longer the case.
The technology used today relies on well-established standards that everyone connects to. Standards such as WMS (Web Map Service) and WFS (Web Feature Service Interface Standard) have made it easier to compile information from various sources and also to share and create information.
Mogul is investing a great deal in development and has decided to make this one of their areas of focus. This work was previously carried out by the company Curalia, which is now an integrated part of Mogul.
Satisfied account manager Gert-Åke Wennberg commented on winning the Golden Link:
– First and foremost we’re delighted for the Swedish National Heritage Board. This represents official recognition of something that we all realized had become especially successful. The visitor statistics for the National Heritage Board’s website have shown this too! And we are, of course, proud of the project team that supplied the solution. We are especially happy that the entire solution was developed using open-source software, which we are passionate about.
Malin Blomqvist of the National Heritage Board, commented on the Golden Link as follows:
– This is truly a sign of recognition for everyone who has worked with Fornsök through the years: cataloguers, registrars, developers and administration. The project team at Mogul has been a great support.
Coming seminars
Mogul will hold map seminars on 10 June (Stockholm) and 17 June (Gothenburg) where we will share our experience and expertise regarding the area of GIS together with Decerno. The seminars will be directed primarily towards local authorities and public administration and will discuss how maps can provide increased value for their e-services.
